How much does a missed call actually cost a contractor?

A missed call is not a missed call. It is a missed job. And most contractors have no idea how many they lose in a week.

Start with one number: your average job

Take your average job value. For a lot of trades that is anywhere from a few hundred dollars on a service call to several thousand on an install or a roof. Now hold that number, because that is what a single missed call can be worth. The homeowner calling you is not browsing. They have a problem and they want it fixed. If you do not answer, they are not leaving a voicemail and waiting. They are dialing the next company on the list.

The leak you cannot see

Here is what makes this brutal: you never see the job you lost. There is no voicemail, no note, no record. The phone rang, nobody picked up, and the revenue went somewhere else without a trace. Most contractors are losing real money this way every single week and have no way to count it, because the leak is invisible by design.

Run your own rough math

Count the calls you miss in a normal week. Be honest, including after hours, during jobs, and when everyone is slammed. Even a handful a week, multiplied by your close rate and your average job, adds up to serious money over a year. For most contractors it is the single biggest leak in the business, and it is happening in total silence.

How to plug it

Two things stop the bleed. First, speed-to-lead: every inbound gets answered in seconds, automatically, so the call does not ring out in the first place. Second, missed-call text-back: the moment a call is missed, an automatic text goes out so the lead knows you saw them and stays warm instead of dialing the next guy. Together they turn a silent leak into booked work. That is the first thing the operating system we build closes.

Questions

More on this.

How many calls does the average contractor miss?

It varies, but most contractors are surprised when they actually count: after-hours calls, calls during jobs, and overflow when everyone is busy add up fast. Even a handful a week is significant revenue over a year.

What is missed-call text-back?

When a call comes in and nobody answers, the system automatically sends the caller a text within seconds, so they know you saw them and stay engaged instead of calling a competitor.
